On Thursday 8th November 2018 Wilson Briggs, Managing Director of Alwood by Alfred Briggs received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Ulster Tatler Interiors Award night. Ulster Tatler Interiors celebrated 15 years of being Northern Irelands number one interiors magazine with a gala awards night held at the Ulster Reform Club. This special night was held to recognise the phenomenal talents of those within the industry who have led the way designing interiors across Ireland and further afield.
As Ireland’s Original Kitchen Company founded in 1933, Wilson has been at the helm of Alwood since 1960, under the guidance of his father Alfred Briggs. Throughout his career Wilson has enabled Alwood to achieve many firsts within the industry. In 1968 he saw a niche in the industry and founded AB Distributors. AB became the first distributors of Neff appliances in Northern Ireland and the brand’s first UK customer. With Alwoods skills and experience Wilson brought DuPont Corian to market in 1983, with Alwood being the first dedicated fabricator of Corian in Ireland.
Anyone who knows Wilson will have met him either through his love of rugby, through school or throughout his work. Those in the industry will consider him a friend. Without his foresight and pioneering endeavour to take the kitchen market to new levels of quality, service and innovation, the industry would have been a very different place.
It is only fitting that in this, Alwood’s 85th year of business and Wilson’s 75th year, that he has been recognised for his business acumen, charismatic personality and achievements within the industry.
